After completing her BMUS at the University of Queensland, Marian moved to Los Angeles to study with renowned bassists Paul Ellison, Dennis Trembly and later with François Rabbath in Paris. While completing her Masters of Music at the University of Southern California, Marian gained enormous playing experience in the frantic recording studio scene and playing chamber music. Upon returning to Australia Marian started her freelance career with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.
Since then she has spent several years with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra Victoria as well as with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and Western Australian Symphony Orchestra. Marian is always thrilled to collaborate with compelling artists at festivals such as the Stradbroke Chamber Music Festival and the innovative Brisbane Music Festival. Marian is also dedicated to organising the annual Big Brisbane Bass Day, an event that brings together over 100 Australian bassists for masterclasses and a mass concert.
Currently Marian is honoured to be one of the Double Bass Faculty at the QLD Conservatorium. She has performed in numerous musical theatre productions such as Phantom of the Opera, Chicago, Dr Zhivago, West Side Story, American in Paris, Mary Poppins, Wizard of Oz, Les Miserable, The King and I, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Ladies in Black just to name a few! Marian’s current role as principal bassist with Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra, is an enriching and vibrant part of her musical life.
