Camerata has a rich history of offering opportunities to emerging string players, and this was formalised into the Upbeat Program in 2017. The initiative is designed to foster the next generation of Queensland-based musicians and provides a number of performance and mentoring opportunities to support career pathways for promising graduating or recently graduated artists.

Across a 12-month period, Upbeat Artists will be invited to participate in a variety of rehearsals and performances, including the annual regional tour. Along with experiencing life as a professional musician, participants will gain valuable industry insights and have the opportunity to be mentored by Camerata’s Core Players and staff.

Up to five high level players are appointed each year, typically 2 violinists, 1 violist, 1 cellist and 1 double bass player.

HOW TO APPLY

Requirements:

• An expression of interest letter (one page PDF)
• One A4 page CV or list of relevant experiences to give an indication of your playing experience, including two music referees and their full contact details (one page PDF)
• A link to a live performance or video that you have made. The performance may include piano accompaniment, but chamber music performances are not accepted. (While this does not have to be professionally created, note that sound quality and being able to see how your sound is produced are taken into consideration.)
• Your availability for Camerata’s 2027 Regional Tour, from May/June 2027

 Eligibility:

• Preference is given to players in their first three years after undergraduate study. Full-time students may apply if they will be in their final year of study during the program. If in doubt, please email us via camerata@camerata.net.au.
