Upbeat is Camerata’s emerging artist initiative, fostering the next generation of Queensland musicians, and provides a number of performance and rehearsal opportunities over twelve months to support career pathways for talented graduating or recently graduated artists.

The participants join Camerata to experience life as an Artistic Associate of Camerata, gain valuable industry insight, and be mentored by Camerata’s Artistic Associates.

Camerata is pleased to announce the following members of this year’s 2024 Upbeat program:

  • Claire Litwinowicz, Violin
  • Michael Gibson, Cello
  • Kevin Hsu, Violin
  • Ella Beard, Viola
  • David Tan, Violin
  • Deakin Darby, Double Bass

The program is close to the heart of Camerata’s Artistic Director, Brendan Joyce, who spoke fondly of those emerging years as a professional musician.

“In Camerata’s earliest existence, we were all ‘emerging’ or would be ‘upbeat program’ players in some ways, and those experiences were so formative, and they are beautiful memories that I will carry with me forever, so I would hope we can replicate at least some of the flavour of that for these emerging players.

Camerata’s 2024 Upbeats are excited to make meaningful connections, develop their playing, get real world experience and spread the joy of music with Camerata this year.

We are excited to welcome them to Camerata!
