Write for one of Australia’s busiest ensembles! 

Each year, Camerata appoints a Queensland-based composer in the early stages of their career as Emerging Composer-in-Residence. 

Camerata is committed to presenting new music, especially by Queensland Composers. As part of the residency, the successful applicant will be required to travel to a regional area in Queensland to be immersed in the region, ideally during February/March 2027 (specific dates subject to discussion). The premiere of the work will occur during Camerata’s regional tour in August 2027. Please indicate your February/March availability in your application.

HOW TO APPLY 

Required:  

• An expression of interest (one page PDF).
• One A4 page CV including two references that can comment about your abilities as a composer and their full contact details (one page PDF)
• Up to 3 links to files of your works to date (e.g. Performances on Vimeo or YouTube links, or full scores and files via platforms like a Dropbox link.)
• Your availability during February/March 2027 

Eligibility: 

• Emerging or early career composers who will be residing in Queensland in 2027. If in doubt, please email us via camerata@camerata.net.au.
• The program does not allow for high school-aged composers to apply.

Closing date: 

• Monday 28 September 2026 11:59am.

Shortlisted applicants:

• Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an interview by Monday 26 October 2026.
• Interviews will be held in the weeks following 27 October 2026.
