Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra is seeking a remarkable leader to become its next Executive Director, working in co-leadership with Artistic Director, Brendan Joyce. The new leader will bring arts-focused business acumen and entrepreneurial flair to this exceptional cultural organisation, along with a track record in successful fundraising and government advocacy.

The ideal candidate for Executive Director will most likely come from an ED or executive leadership team role in the Australian arts sector. They will have proven capacity to build an organisation on a steep upward trajectory, approaching the role with a love of the artform, effective management skills, and a warm collegial spirit.

Purpose of the Role

Working in close collaboration with the Artistic Director, the Board, the senior leadership team, the musicians and stakeholders, the Executive Director provides the administrative strength to deliver on Camerata’s long term aspirations, balancing artistic achievement with financial performance.

The position is a full-time role based in Brisbane with some regional Queensland travel involved.

Key competencies and other qualities

• proven capacity to work collaboratively with the AD, jointly providing leadership to a small tight-knit team
• strong skills in revenue raising – from box office, from philanthropic sources and from government funding
• demonstrated leadership to develop robust systems and processes to support the strategic vision and work of the Board
• excellent team- and relationship-building skills internally and externally
• outstanding communication skills
• an ambitious supporter of the role Camerata can play in enriching Australian culture and communities
• a demonstrated knowledge of and passion for classical music is preferable
