“A passionate serenade of guitar and strings featuring Karin Schaupp’s virtuosic veracity and a tender tribute to a life cut short.” Gemma Regan, Limelight Magazine.
“Camerata is a bold and fearless ensemble… Program choices for this enjoyable celebration of strings and guitar featured a selection of music with a rich yet subtle palette of colours… An elegant concert which delighted the audience.” Gillian Wills, Australian Stage.
Last week, Camerata returned to the Concert Hall stage, QPAC, and The Empire Theatre in Toowoomba to present our mainstage concert Camerata & Karin Schaupp: Serenade.
We hope you enjoyed this delightful program as much as we did (especially that Dvorak “sandwich”!). Special thanks to composer Sef Albertz for a superb arrangement of Mendelssohn’s Songs Without Words for guitar and strings, and to Carl Vine, Musica Viva Australia, Karin Schaupp and Kathryn Bennett, for the beautiful “Endless” in memory of Jennifer Bates.
And congratulations to our Wild Card Mystery Guests, the Bronos Kentet for their delicate and moving interpretation of Hand’s Chorale for Guitar Quartet.
“Very entertaining programming! [I enjoyed] the thread of Dvorak running through the concert, the fabulous surprise guests, and of course the excellent musicianship from all players.” Sheena Burnell, Audience Member.
“A brilliant concert, especially Endless for Solo Guitar and Strings. The sounds were sublime, the music evocative and the staging befitting of the memory of someone very special.” Kay Bodman, Audience Member.
“Camerata joined forces with guitarist Karin Schaupp for an evening of sensitive chamber music… carving out a space for reflection in the busyness of life.“ Claire Matthews, ClassikON

That’s a wrap for Serenade, though we’re kicking off our regional tour this week and will be performing a few concerts in SEQ in the next few months.
