Revolution Remixed explored how music can challenge, reshape and reimagine tradition across time.

At its centre was Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 Eroica, a work that redefined the possibilities of the symphony. Its scale, emotional intensity and bold contrasts marked a decisive break from Classical conventions, opening a new musical world that still feels immediate and electrifying.

In dialogue with this, Julian Yu’s reimagining of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition offered a contemporary perspective on a familiar work. Preserving the spirit of Mussorgsky’s original while transforming its textures, colours and structure, Yu’s version reveals new layers of detail and unexpected sonic landscapes.

Together, these works trace a through line between past and present, showing how the idea of “revolution” in music is not fixed, but continually unfolding through reinterpretation, reinvention and performance.
