“I was particularly drawn to apply for the Upbeat program because I’ve always admired Camerata’s versatility and the way that they perform in both classical and contemporary spaces and work alongside many other Queensland and Australian artists.”
Meet Claire Litwinowicz, one of our 2024 Upbeat artists!
Claire grew up in Brisbane and immediately fell in love with the violin, when she heard it for the very first time at a demonstration for her state primary school’s music program. She started taking lessons then and never stopped after that! After high school, she made the decision to be a professional violinist, and spent the next five years studying at the Queensland Conservatorium.
Claire always knew since she was a child that she wanted to pursue music as a career. Once she started playing instruments, music became a big part of her world and has been with her through every stage of her life. She says, “It has always been a way that I connect with and express myself, so there was never a question of if I would pursue music, I think I always knew that this was the path for me.”
Claire first heard of Camerata’s Upbeat program through some of her conservatorium friends who had either already been in the program or were about to apply. She was eager to apply for the program as opportunities to perform as part of a chamber orchestra are fairly rare for young artists. She says, “as someone who often toes the line between being a classical and contemporary musician, I felt that Camerata aligned with my values and felt very excited to play some wonderful classical music and new compositions too”.
Claire recently joined us on Camerata’s 2024 regional tour and experienced the range of our activities. She says, “It was an absolute pleasure to be amongst such a genuine and passionate group of musicians who care so much for sharing music with community. The whole tour was filled with joy and connection, both on and off stage, and it was a bonus for me to be able to perform for my family in Monto!”.
Our Upbeat program is designed to foster emerging artists through mentoring from our Artistic Associates, and rehearsals and performance opportunities to gain valuable industry insight and experience.?
We are delighted to have Claire as part of Camerata’s 2024 Upbeat program!
