This May, Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra embarks on our annual Queensland Tour, bringing the joy of music to regional Queensland communities.
Camerata in Concert will feature a joyous program featuring works by Dvorak, Vivaldi and more, featuring Camerata’s Rory Smith as cello soloist, and a brand-new composition by Camerata’s 2023 Emerging Composer-in-Residence, Ray Lin in a performance that the whole family will enjoy!
This year communities in the Far North Queensland areas of Proserpine, Ingham, and Mossman, will experience a suite of community engagement activities culminating in an evening performance in each town. Camerata will then finish the tour with their debut at the Sunshine Coast Chamber Music Festival at Buderim Memorial Hall.
Camerata is delighted to premiere Lin’s piece in regional Queensland, a new, evocative work for string orchestra inspired by his recent trip exploring the Whitsunday region. This follows a long tradition of local audiences loving the new music commissioned by Camerata, with previous commissions based on the Fraser Coast, Emerald, Winton, Charleville and more.
A highlight of its program, Camerata’s annual regional tour includes many unique and profound opportunities for connection and enriching communities. Camerata’s talented musicians delight in performing for the local community, running workshops with schools and local musicians, performing specialised programs for kindergarten children, and presenting concerts for aged care and respite care residents.
Tickets on sale now.
This tour is made possible with the support of the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland and our presenting partners.
