Following a year of outstanding artistic milestones in 2019, including a Helpmann Award nomination for Best Chamber and/or Instrumental Ensemble Concert, Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra, promises another exceptional year for audiences in 2020.
Camerata enables communities to connect – to experience an extraordinary sound made by Queensland-based artists that is unique in Australia. In 2020, Camerata commences the season with Compassion welcoming Lior, an outstanding Australian singer/songwriter, who will sing of the connectedness of the human experience, regardless of race or religion, in a work set to ancient texts in both Hebrew and Arabic.
Continuing to activate public spaces and bring audiences together in unique settings, Camerata takes over the Concert Hall Foyer at QPAC, providing an intimate space to enjoy the brilliance of an all Baroque program, together with a shot of coffee in A Shot of Baroque. Providing access to music for all Queenslanders continues as a priority for Camerata with a new partnership with West Village providing an ideal space for an exciting program of kindergarten and education workshops.
Across the state, from Longreach to Cloncurry, the ensemble will tour with the support of Tim Fairfax Family Foundation. For many who live in regional Queensland, Camerata provides their first live classical music experience, shared together with their family.
Extending Camerata’s national reach, Camerata will perform in the grand finals of the ‘Olympics for the Piano’ (occurring once every four years), The Sydney International Piano Competition. Following this performance, the ensemble will bring the winner home to showcase the artistry of the next generation of piano soloists in Concerto.
In an Australian exclusive, Camerata concludes Season 2020 by welcoming Argentinian powerhouse, Tango Sin Fin, in a Brisbane Festival gala, Endless Tango, embracing the passion and spirit of Argentinian music, with works from Piazolla to composers of today.
For Something Extra, Camerata’s Artistic Director and Leader, Brendan Joyce, will perform an intimate concert In Recital with Brendan Joyce & Alex Raineri at GOMA. Violin and piano will feature in an exquisite program, followed by a two-course meal prepared in response to the music, in the GOMA Restaurant. This event has strictly limited seating and falls on 29 February – not to happen again for another four years! says Brendan Joyce.
Hailed by The Australian as “the future of Australian Chamber Music”, Camerata welcomes back Orava Quartet as Artist-in-Residence for 2020. They’ll delight audiences in October with Orava Quartet in Sunrise with a stunning program featuring Haydn, Schulhoff and Ravel.
Much loved The Fish Lane Project continues in 2020, with Camerata partnering with three neighbourhood business to enhance the audience experience. At Hello Please, Maeve Wine and Wandering Cooks, patrons are invited to taste a unique food and beverage offering, each inspired from Camerata’s music program on the main stage – taste it now, hear it later!
Performing without a conductor, Camerata’s string players have established a reputation for passionate, exciting performances which engage audiences of all ages, whatever their experience.
