Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra is delighted to announce the appointment of Michael Sterzinger as Executive Director.
Michael comes to Camerata with a broad range of experience in the music industry, for the past seven years in Artistic Planning at Queensland Symphony Orchestra.
His experience includes working with Christoph Eschenbach at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival Orchestra in Germany, John Curro at the Queensland Youth Orchestra (where he was Marketing Officer) and with Alondra de la Parra and Johannes Fritzsch at Queensland Symphony Orchestra. He has also served as Treasurer of the Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra and regularly performs with them as tuba player.
Brian Bartley, Chair of Camerata said “Michael has the right combination of experience in the classical music industry with an entrepreneurial and energetic approach that is the right fit for Camerata – we look forward to his contribution and support of Artistic Director Brendan Joyce”.
Most recently, Michael has been involved in the planning of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra’s 2021 season, including the performances with Birds of Tokyo in February 2021. His experience extends to collaborations with opera, ballet, theatre, circus, dance and visual arts companies.
Michael Sterzinger said, “I am excited to join Camerata and to collaborate with Artistic Director, Brendan Joyce, in developing adventurous programs to inspire and grow audiences. Together with the board and the dedicated team, I aspire to nurture the best environment for the musicians of Camerata to realize their potential and to perform at their finest.”
Michael starts with Camerata on 4 May and is looking forward to meeting as many members of the Camerata community as possible in the coming months.
