“…Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra…presented a captivating performance of timeless classics by Mendelssohn and Rossini, complemented by the extraordinary talent of violin soloist Catherina Lee. The musical journey, highlighted by heart-warming connections and astonishing performances, left the audience spellbound and yearning for more.” John Andrew, Weekend Notes
“Featuring an expat string star…Camerata bursts with musical colour…Joyce is to be congratulated on keeping all his orchestral forces tightly together in both this symphony, as well as throughout the concert, without a conductor. As we have come to expect with Camerata, the standard of playing was of the highest quality.” Limelight
On Friday 4 August and Saturday 5 August 2023, Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra presented two performances of Viva Violin in Toowoomba and Brisbane and enchanted their audiences with beloved and renowned classical works from Rossini and Mendelssohn.
“Thank you Camerata for an evening of beautiful music. Wonderful to hear Mendelssohn’s music performed live.” Laraine Brengman, audience member
Camerata was also joined on stage by the incredibly talented Catherina Lee, a former student of Camerata’s founder Elizabeth Morgan AM on the cusp of her solo career, who, along with Camerata’s musicians, gave a breath-taking performance of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto.
“Catherina Lee’s extraordinary talent is a perfect match for you, Camerata. Thank you for yet another magic evening!”. Robyn Campbell, audience member
Camerata also premiered “Journey Through The Enchanted Landscapes”, an SEQ premiere of Camerata’s 2023 Emerging Composer-In-Residence Ray Lin, a composition inspired by the landscapes of North Queensland Ray explored earlier this year, as part of our Regional Tour.
“Ray Lin’s new string composition Journey Through The Enchanted Landscapes divided the two Mendelssohn pieces [and] first premiered on Camerata’s recent regional tour of the Whitsunday region, where they travelled 2,620 km to reach over 3,000 people in only 12 days! Lin’s six brief movements evoked the sounds of Australia and was well received, with him being clapped onto the stage in appreciation of the work.” 4zzz
“What a glorious evening. Ray Lin’s work was simply magical” Benn Nicolle-Day, audience member
