This May/June, Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra embarks on our annual Queensland Tour, bringing the joy of music to regional Queensland communities.
This year communities in the Wide Bay Burnett and Central Queensland areas of Mundubbera, Monto, Bundaberg, Theodore and Biloela will experience a suite of community engagement activities, from kindergarten performances to visits to senior citizens, culminating in an evening performance in each town.
Camerata in Concert will feature a 15-piece orchestra and a joyous program with works by the Italian Baroque violin virtuoso Locatelli, Dvorak’s radiant Serenade for Strings, and more, including a brand new composition by Camerata’s 2024 Emerging Composer-in-Residence, Alexandra Mison. Camerata will also be joined for some encores by local performers and community musicians.
Camerata is delighted to premiere Mison’s piece in regional Queensland, following a long tradition of local audiences loving new music commissioned by Camerata, previously based on the Fraser Coast, Emerald, Winton in Western Queensland, and more. This year, Mison’s work will be inspired by her trip exploring the Biloela and Theodore regions, and will conjure evocative soundscapes in an exciting new work for string orchestra.
In addition to our Camerata in Concert performances, this important tour offers regional and rural communities the opportunity to connect with Camerata’s talented musicians through workshops, specialised programs for kindergarten children, a nostalgic program for senior citizens.
